We are in the midst of lots of “shakes” both physically and within the Health & Social Service Sectors – nothing is going to be the same and in both spaces we have the opportunity to create something new that protects and strengthens our communities.    Partnering and working together as Whānau, Collectives, and Consortium has never been more important.

Angelia Ria, CEO

Update Canterbury Clinical Network – Age Care Workstream

Dr Jenny Keightley is the clinical leader and a GP in the Canterbury Clinical Network. Her area of work for the CCN is about improving health care in the community for frail older people.

Jenny will consult about the needs and wishes of the Maori Community for health care services for Kaumatua in the community.

There is some work being done by the workstream on:

  • liaison with Older Persons Health Services at The Princess Margaret Hospital,
  • improving coordination and linking of community nursing and home support with General Practice and hospital,
  • improving medicines use and understanding by linking with pharmacies
  • preventing injury from falls by encouraging kaumatua to stay strong and fit with strength and balance training.

Jenny is interested to listen to the community about the dreams for health care for frail elders, how to make it a whanau-centered service and welcomes any suggestions for making access to information, health care and prevention better.

  • Sept 4th & Christchurch effects
