Total Smokefree Policy
Introduction
He Oranga Pounamu wants to provide a healthy environment for all employees, trustees, clients, visitors and suppliers who enter our workplace. Passive smoking is a significant health risk, and He Oranga Pounamu wishes to protect all non- smokers from the effects of smoke in the workplace. Any person who does not choose to smoke should, so far as is reasonably possible, be protected from tobacco smoke in the workplace.
Smoke-free Environments Act 1990
The purpose of the Act is to minimise or prevent the detrimental effects of smoking on the health of any person who does not smoke or who does not wish to smoke, inside any workplace or particular public enclosed areas.
Totally Smoke-free Policy
He Oranga Pounamu is a totally smokefree workplace. Smoking is not permitted within the premises at any time. The ban on smoking includes the use of He Oranga Pounamu's premises for after work functions outside of normal working hours. All employees, clients, suppliers and visitors are expected to abide by the requirements of the totally smokefree workplace policy.
Implementation
- All employees applying for positions at He Oranga Pounamu, temporary employees, suppliers, and clients will be informed of the totally smokefree policy.
- Copies of this policy will be made available to prospective employees, current employees and trustees on request.
- Appropriate signs will always be clearly displayed to indicate He Oranga Pounamu's non-smoking status.
Complaints Procedure
- All complaints shall be put in writing, and given to He Oranga Pounamu.
- All complaints will be addressed within 20 working days.
- A representative of the employees in the work place shall be entitled to be present at any meeting called by the employer for the purpose of resolving the complaint and avoiding future cause of the complaint.
- He Oranga Pounamu will take the necessary action against those who contravene this totally smokefree workplace policy.
Review
This policy shall be reviewed one year from the date of implementation, in consultation with the trustees and employees of He Oranga Pounamu.
